Instructional Services

Book Our Services!

Each campus has librarians available to:

  • Provide instruction tailored to your class
  • Provide an introduction to resources, services, and helpful people available to your students
  • Create instructional content in Canvas
  • Create a collection of class or discipline-specific resources as a LibGuide or a Canvas page

We will come to your classroom - even if it's off-site - or we can host your class in the Library. Let us know what works for you!

To talk about the possibilities or schedule a class, please contact a librarian at your campus Library.

Instructional Content & Supplemental Instruction

If you would like library-related course content or exercises developed for your section, course, or discipline, we can do that! Content may be delivered in Canvas or in a LibGuide. Each can be easily incorporated into your online course.

If you are unfamiliar with LibGuides, take a look at these and think about what we can do for your course(s):

For instructional content development, please contact a librarian at your campus Library.

The Academic Support Coordinators coordinate, develop, and provide supplemental instruction for a variety of student populations on specialized subjects as needed. The Academic Support Coordinators also coordinate, develop, and provide group workshops for a variety of student populations on strategies that contribute to overall student success. Workshops can be conducted outside of the Academic Support Center, including off-site locations. To develop supplemental instruction opportunities in your subject area or suggest topics for student success workshops, contact your campus Academic Support Coordinator.

Course Reserves

To assist in the distribution of class materials, each SJR State Library has a Reserves Collection consisting of items selected by faculty members for their students' use. Any item owned by a faculty member or an SJR State department may be placed on Reserve in the Library. The Library then checks out the item to the user so the faculty member does not have to manage the item. Faculty may also choose to put an item owned by the campus Library on Reserve for a specific time period for in-library use.

Good opportunities to use this service:

  • You have required supplemental readings in your course.
  • You require students to watch films that are not available through the Library's streaming services
  • You have a piece of equipment that students need to access for your course (skeleton, bones, diagrams, technological devices, maps, etc.).
  • You want to provide access to the textbook for your course.

To request this service, please contact the Circulation Manager at the Library where you would like to make the item available and provide her a completed Faculty Reserves Request.

Interlibrary Loan

Need an item that SJR State Libraries do not own? Contact Brittnee Fisher, Eric Biggs, or Beryl White-Bing.

Interlibrary Loans are helpful when:

  • You would like to review potential course materials before purchase.
  • You would like to review an item before making a request for purchase.

Please note, for interlibrary loans the loan periods and renewal policies are set by the lending libraries and will vary by item. A request for renewal must be made four days prior to the due date set by the lending library. The lending library has the right to grant or deny a renewal.

Educational Technology Assistance for Faculty & Students

The Librarians will provide faculty and students assistance with basic computer and software functions including Office products, Canvas, MySJRstate, VR experiences in the Library’s collection and its related hardware, Respondus and its related hardware, and Smarthinking

Additionally, Library faculty and staff will assist students who need to make a video presentation as part of a class requirement. The scope of this assistance is limited to providing the student access to needed equipment, setting up said equipment, providing basic, point-and-shoot assistance if needed, and providing assistance uploading the video to Canvas if needed. A video camera, backdrop, and lighting is available for student’s use in the library.

Acquisitions

Faculty members may request materials for purchase or licensing by contacting Dr. Christina Will, Dean of Learning Resources
