MLA 8th Edition: Guiding Principles

The eighth edition of the MLA Handbook reflects this question:  What core elements, facts common to most works, do I need to include?  They are then assembled in a specific order with specific punctuation.

The MLA Core elements are:

Author.

Title of source.

Titlte of container,other contributors,

Version,

number,

Publisher,

Publication date,

Location.

The following template can be used to build your citation by filling out the lements of your source and assembling it in the order.

Major changes in the 8th edition

1. vol. and no. are now spelled out.

Instead of 32.3; it's: vol. 32, no. 3

2. Place of publication is omitted.

3. Page numbers are designated with pp.

4. Date of access is omitted.

5. Medium of publication is omitted.
